FAQs

  • I do not maintain a waitlist for services. If I am not accepting new clients, the referral option on the website will be disabled and an announcement on voicemail will also reflect this. However, there may be times when there is a delay in providing the most up-to-date information via the website or voicemail due to scheduling, work demands, and other personal and professional commitments. If you submit a referral and I am unable to provide services or accommodate your schedule, I will notify you as soon as possible. Upon request, I may also furnish a list of alternative providers in the community who may have availability.

Please note that when I am not accepting referrals, I cannot provide estimates or timeframes for when I might have availability for new clients. I understand this may be inconvenient, but I believe it is essential to prioritize the quality of care for existing clients.

If you have any questions or are unsure if I am currently accepting referrals, please feel free to contact me at 304-278-3010.

  • My regular business hours are by appointment only, Monday through Friday, typically 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. I do not offer weekend or walk-in appointments at this time.

  • An intake evaluation is the initial session where we gather information about your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. During this evaluation, your therapist will ask you questions about your mental health history, family dynamics, and any previous therapy experiences, if applicable. This session helps us to better understand your needs and develop a personalized treatment plan.

In contrast, the therapy sessions that follow the intake evaluation are focused on implementing the treatment plan and working towards your specific goals. These sessions are typically more interactive and may involve various therapeutic techniques and strategies, depending on your individual needs. While the intake evaluation is primarily focused on assessment, the subsequent therapy sessions are centered around growth, healing, and skill-building.

  • Yes, I offer both in-person and tele-health therapy services to accommodate the diverse needs and preferences of clients. In-person sessions are conducted in a safe, comfortable, and confidential environment, while tele-health services utilize secure and HIPAA-compliant video conferencing technology to provide convenient and accessible care from the comfort of your home.

  • Yes, there are several special considerations for telehealth therapy that are important. If it is clinically appropriate for a client, additional considerations can include:

    1. Age: Telehealth services are only available to clients who are 14 years of age and older.

    2. Technology: Client should have a reliable internet connection and necessary equipment (e.g., computer, webcam, headphones) to engage in teletherapy sessions effectively.

    3. Privacy: Clients using telehealth should ensure they have a private space for sessions, and make sure that their device is secure and password-protected.

Additional considerations and information can be found in my Informed Consent for Telehealth document.

  • While telehealth therapy provides increased flexibility and convenience for many individuals, there may be limitations on using this option when traveling outside your area. To receive telehealth services, you must be physically located in WV or VA during the appointment.

  • Insurance coverage for telehealth therapy varies by provider and policy. Many insurance companies have expanded their coverage of telehealth services in recent years, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the each insurer’s variable policies, I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to verify your specific coverage details.

Before scheduling a teletherapy session, you should review your insurance policy and ask your insurance company about any requirements or limitations regarding telehealth services. This may include restrictions on the type of provider, the platform used for teletherapy, or the number of sessions covered.

If your insurance does not cover teletherapy or you prefer not to use your insurance, I also offer out-of-pocket payment options. Please feel free to discuss these options with me.

  • Therapy sessions may vary by client and their individual need. For some individuals, weekly sessions may be recommended, while others may benefit from twice per week, biweekly or monthly sessions. Ultimately, the frequency of sessions will be determined collaboratively between you and your therapist, ensuring that you receive the appropriate level of support for your unique situation.

  • I understand you may be concerned about the well-being of someone you care about, and I appreciate your desire to help. However, it's important to note that therapy is most effective when the individual seeking help is actively engaged and willing to participate in the process.

If you are concerned about someone's mental health, I recommend you encourage them to reach out to me directly.
